Jewellery Bags

Cartier evening bags beckon from the dizzying heights of desire, sparkling paragons of excellence and supreme seduction. This is exclusive finery poised at the pinnacle of the leatherworker’s art, offering the ultimate in luxury and the ultimate in jewellery. Each bag is a true piece of jewellery made to dazzlingly flatter its owner. These miracles of sophistication glitter with drama and refinement, masterpieces of the atelier, subscribing to traditional methods of craftsmanship. Cartier electrifies every one of these bags with a spectacular aura of authentic craftsmanship in a show of guilloché, perforated leather, paving, silk and silver-thread weaving and lacquering techniques.

Incredibly precious bags to illuminate an evening
Clutches, purses, bags… bejewelled stars of the night clad in satin, python skin, red lacquer or crocodile skin. Eveningwear pieces sealed with a solid-silver Panthère clasp reminiscent of the legendary Cartier lipstick, speckled with black lacquer or onyx and sometimes paved with brilliant-cut diamonds. Two Russian-faceted hardstone cabochons frame either end of the clasp in chrysoprase, onyx or cornelian.

Lacquer
Each lacquered clasp takes time to gradually assemble. The lacquer is fixed and surfaced to sit seamlessly atop the metal, rendering invisible the boundaries between the two materials.

Guilloché
A guilloché shell is used in selected red-lacquer clutches. Guilloché is a jewellery-making technique applied here to leatherwork. Grooved lines are etched into the piece to create an inimitable marbled effect, an iridescence that seems to magically shimmer and sway beneath the lacquer.

Silk-Thread Embroidery
The same exacting standards are applied to the task of hand-covering a bag with perforated leather as to the extraordinary technique of hand-weaving silk and silver thread practised by the artisans of the Lisio Foundation in Italy, which has nurtured wooden-loom weaving methods since 1906.
